Flaine is an architecturally modern and car free resort located in the Haute-Savoie region, close to the Mont-Blanc. This resort is part of one of the largest skiing area in France "Grand Massif".
Flaine is in continuous renewal and expansion. This lively resort already attracts lots of ski enthusiasts and many more are expected to follow. Flaine's attraction is meant to increase thanks to Intrawest's brand new 4 star residence "Les Terrasses d'Eos" in Flaine Mont Soleil and many more high quality accommodations to come.
With one of the best snow records in the French Alps, Flaine is very often called "big snowy bowl". Therefore, you will enjoy a beautiful landscape while skiing or snowboarding.
Close to Geneva airport and with snow at the doorstep of most accommodation, Flaine is also described as a "Fly in, Ski out resort". Flaine is one of the most easily accessible resorts in the French Alps.

Skiing in Grand Massif
Grand
Massif is very well known as a great area for both
skiers and snowboarders. From beginners to those more
adventurous, all will be amazed by the 265kms of
linked and prepared runs. This skiing area connects
Flaine with 4 other resorts; Les Carroz, Morillon,
Samoëns and Sixt Fer-a-Cheval.
“The Cascades Piste”
Make
sure you don’t miss “The Cascades
piste”, a 14kms long run, dropping you down
from Les “Grandes Platieres” into the
Village of Sixt Fer a Cheval at 1800m. A beautiful
landscape without encountering one single ski lift.
Once in Sixt, a free shuttle bus takes you to the
main cable car in Samoëns and from there you
will be able to go back to Flaine.
“Keep an eye on the lift closing
time”
However,
during high-season, be aware that given the skiing
area, you may face bottlenecks in the afternoon when
everyone is heading for home. Therefore, schedule
your heading back early or late but keep an eye on
the lift closing time.

Snowboarding in Grand Massif
Snowboarders
will enjoy “Grand Massif” thanks to the
variety and good snow record of the skiing
domain.
Throughout
the “Grand Massif”, 3 terrains parks are
at the disposal of all snowboarders.

Pro: This terrain is located in Flaine and is aimed
at experts. It features rails, tables, quarter pipe,
a boardercross course and plenty of kickers.

Cool: This terrain is designed for less accomplished
acrobats and is located In
Samoëns.

Cross country skiing in Flaine
Flaine Ski
Nordic is situated at 1844m at “the Col de
Pierre Carrée”. This cross-country
skiing area is the highest and with the best snow
cover in the Alps. You will be able to enjoy 17kms of
marked tracks for skating and traditional
cross-country skiing. The “Agy area”,
about 30 minutes from Flaine offers 30km of
additional tracks.

Pedestrians in Flaine
Even
if you don’t ski or snowboard, you can still
enjoy magnificent views of Mont Blanc. Indeed, the
“Grandes Platieres” cable car will take
you from 1600 to 2500m. Why not enjoy a lunch at the
sun terrace of the altitude bar and restaurant,
located at the top.

Ski School
The
ESF in Flaine offers skiing and snowboarding lessons
for adults and children.
You
can either have group lessons or private
lessons.
For
young children, aged from 3 years old, there is the
“Jardin d’enfants” where they will
be entertained and have skiing lessons.

| The Skiing |
From Flaine, you can access the main mountain of "Grand Massif" by gondola, which takes you to Les "Grandes Platieres" at 2480m. From this point, you will be able to enjoy a wide series of runs from blue to black all going down to Flaine. Moreover, in that "snowy bowl", most of the lifts go up to 2500m.
Flaine is ideal for families with young children too. Good nursery slopes are located in as well as outside the village of Flaine. |
