A special occasion is a great excuse for a getaway! Here are a few ideas of what is offered in the French Alps around national holidays.

Valentine’s Day – 14th February


Where to go

Head to Courchevel for a spectacular show of snow and fire! They have planned choreographed acrobatics displays, a torchlit descent with music and a fireworks display - the perfect way to spend a romantic evening.

Les Chalets de la Mouria
4* Les Chalets de la Mouria is located a stone's throw from Courchevel Moriond resort centre. The ski slopes and lifts are just 250m away. Built in traditional Savoyard style, the apartments are reminiscent of an intimate hamlet resting on the hillside with views down the valley from some of the chalets.

Le Chabichou
Gastronomic French cuisine expertly prepared by Michel Rochedy (Master Chef of France) and Stéphane Buron (Best French Professional, MOF, 2004). This restaurant has been honoured with 2 Michelin Stars since 1984! The Valentine’s Day menu includes foie gras, wild bass, lobster, truffle, Cardamon white chocolate and many more treats. This is definitely a treat menu though at 240€ per person!

 

St Patrick’s Day – 17th March


Where to go

Val d'Isère have a few events lined up to celebrate St Patrick's Day in the Irish style. This includes a golden coin hunt event over the Val d’Isere ski area throughout the day, and the Val d'Isère Telepherique staff will be handing out chocolate golden coins at the foot of selected ski lifts! There’s also a St Patrick's Day concert in the Tourist Office square's Irish bar hosted by "La Sauce" association.

Les Chalets du Jardin Alpin
4* Les Chalet du Jardin Alpin in Val d'Isère is located in a tranquil setting of the La Legettaz area, at the foot of the Solaise ski slopes offering doorstep skiing possibilities(*) and is half a mile from the resort centre (800m).

Where to eat

The Telegraph recommends ‘Moris Pub’ for good-value food such as excellent burgers. Moris Pub also has a good selection of live music in the evenings.

 

Mother’s Day – 26th March


Where to go

There’s lots of fun to be had in Les Arcs with The Great British Celebration which falls over Mother’s Day. For the 4 days of festivities (25th – 31st March), the whole resort of Les Arcs from the station in Bourg Saint Maurice to the top of the Aiguille Rouge, will be decorated in the colours of the British flag.

Special events for the occasion include:

  • The Crunch: a broomball tournament at the new ice rink in Arc 2000 (with mulled wine and hot chocolate)
  • Alpine skiing competition on the Cachette competition course
  • The Robin Hood Tournament: a contest between 2 teams of a maximum of 6 players armed with bows and arrows with foam balls instead of points. The object is to bring the flag back to base by eliminating your opponents one by one using the arrows
  • A British Family Party with DJ Fred Metral, a family friendly dance floor on the snow, and mulled wine, hot chocolate, and toasted marshmallows round the fire-pit
  • The Village’s pubs and bars will be taking part in Après-Ski events
  • A toboggan competition at Mille8
  • And happy hours with theme evenings for an atmosphere that is 100% British in Les Arcs’ shops and attractions!
