Brand new luxury ski residence
The new Koh-i Nor has been described as the ‘jewel’ of Val Thorens. New for the winter 2013/2014 ski season in the French Alps, it consists of only 35 luxury self-catering apartments located on the Plein Sud ski slope in the heights of Val Thorens.
This week, Ski Collection director Olivier Lepoureau visited Koh-i Nor. This is what he had to say: “Koh-i Nor is an impressive residence that is modern in design and yet still retains a comfy feel. The self-catered apartments are very well-equipped. Overlooking Val Thorens, Koh-i Nor holds a privileged position and offers stunning views over the resort.”
Facilities at Koh-i Nor include free and unlimited access to the private indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, steam room and fitness room; Spa where numerous massages and treatments can be enjoyed (payable), a large sunny terrace with impressive panoramic views, a lounge-bar to enjoy a relaxing après-ski drink, secure ski lockers with heated boot-dryers, Wi-Fi internet access (free at reception and payable in the apartments) and a bakery service (payable, pre-order at reception the day before for delivery directly to your apartment the following morning).
Koh-i Nor means 'Mountain of Light' in Persian, and is a 105,602 carat diamond (21.61g) currently mounted on the Queens crown of the British Royal Family and was once the largest diamond in the world. The Koh-i Nor diamond has passed through several hands over the centuries: the Mongol Khans, the imperial court of Afghanistan, the palace of the Rajas of India and finally to the British Crown.
Val Thorens was recently named the ‘World’s Best Ski Resort 2013’ at the World Ski Awards. It is the highest ski resort in Europe and is very popular due to its snow-sure slopes.
