What's new in ski resorts this season?

Our high altitude resorts are always busy, making sure they can offer you the best experience in the mountains! Here's what our resort partners have been up to, and if you're looking for new additions to our programme (including super self-catered apartments and heavenly hotels) check out our dedicated What's New area.

LES ARCS

New for the 2021/2022 season is the Les Arcs zipline, which passes over the old Flying Kilometre run which held the world speed skiing record for many years of 251.40km/hr. After your descent, don't forget to collect your souvenir photo to share with friends! 

If you want to admire the views, a new panoramic terrace 2700m above sea level has been installed with an eco-friendly cafe! With all products being organic and fairtrade, warm up with a homemade soup and baked bread from the woodfire, or enjoy a calzone or pie!

Get the perfect Instagram on the terrace of Carrely, with its 180-degree panorama of Mont Blanc, skiers can relax on a deck chair with WIFI, take a picture in the swing, have a picnic, or get a selfie with the huge 'LES ARCS' letters. 

Take a 2-hour outing on an electric scooter on the snow! Make the most of the mountain scenery, while having fun with friends. 

Start off the day with yoga and brunch. Enjoy a one-hour yoga session with a coach and followed by a healthy brunch. You can even surprise your loved one with a healthy message in their coffee. 

You can now do your bit to reduce the production of plastic waste at your favourite resort. With water fountains now available in tourist offices and elsewhere in the resort, visitors can drink Les Arcs excellent water while reducing plastic waste. 

BOURG SAINT MAURICE

When visiting this beautiful area, check out the urban art that has brightened up the village. Highlighted in several projects, there are huge frescoes on the ground in two of the village streets and a 200m 'free expression' wall.

Make use of the green transport with the resort funicular at a reduced price this year of €3 one way or €5 return (adult price) compared to €9 and €14 in previous seasons. 

AVORIAZ

Morzine and Avoriaz have worked together for over a year on projects that work towards the Flocon Vert award. As of September 2021 these efforts were awarded with the Flocon Vert certification. 

LA PLAGNE

Opening this winter is the new high-speed 6-seater Lovatiere chairlift offering new direct access to Champagny from Plagne Center, via Les Verdons peak.

VAL THORENS

New event this season
La Grande Dernière - 6th-8th May 2022 - Val Thorens is launching La Grande Dernière for its closing weekend. It’s the last chance to ski and enjoy a weekend of entertainment: DJ, waterslide, beach party at 2,300m, big airbag, giant BBQ and more! 

Photo Spots 
Discover this winter the Art & Memories Tour in the 3 Vallées ski area, created by the Savoyard illustrator, Lauriane Miara.6 large photo frames are spread out all over the 3 Vallées with an illustration per ski resort, all the while keeping a mountain theme and the unique style of the illustrator.

Outdoor Escape Game 
Located on the slopes, the escape game is the perfect opportunity to challenge your friends and solve the enigma of the so-called “White Challenge”. The goal: become special mountain agents, solve riddles, show off your knowledge and take on various mountain challenges

Laser Game in the P1 underground parking garage
Dressed from head to toe in protective gear and armed with laser guns, players face each other in a new laser game at 2,300m which opens this season.

The ESF French Ski School in Val Thorens is running beginner snowboarding sessions for 4-6-year-olds. The “Mini Riders” course gives little ones a safe introduction to snowboarding in the kindergarten area, whilst under the supervision of instructors.

“Le Caribou” slopeside restaurant has introduced a series of new Finnish-style chalet pods to its panoramic terrace. Make yourself at home and get cosy in your own dining space, whilst enjoying the stunning scenery.

Val Thorens is the first ice-track in France to introduce a fleet of 100% electric vehicles. This exhilarating activity offers an extraordinary experience not to be missed by thrill-seekers!

The new ice rink is located at the Place Péclet on completely natural ice! There's also a chalet offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere to enjoy crepes and hot chocolate.

A specially dedicated driving school has opened offering a chance to try go-karting on ice. Budding drivers will be trained in special ice-driving techniques for controlling a 270cc go-kart. Included in the session: how to pull off a controlled slide, applying the right pressure to the pedals, and maintaining stability.

Les Deux Alpes ski area

LES 2 ALPES

Experience the ski area differently this season with the new winter mountain biking tours. These specialised MTBs are electric-assisted and equipped with studded tires especially for winter conditions. Suitable for all abilities, with a 400m elevated course for those wanting more of a challenge! 

The bistro Le Diable au Coeur, found on the slopes of Les 2 Alpes, has been awarded the Ecotable label. Established in 2020, the Ecotable label recognises restaurants following sustainable practices, such as incorporating local produce and reducing food waste.

Enjoy the glacier while the sun goes down! The activity is returning this winter, with skiers embarking on an atmospheric descent from above 3,000m altitude combined with a rustic dinner! Available during school holidays.

Restaurant manager of le Refuge des Glaciers, Clement, has embarked on his latest venture to age wine in Les 2 Alpes. Clement will be offering tastings of the high-altitude barrel-aged wine during the winter season!

Les Menuires 3 Vallees French Alps

LES MENUIRES

New for the 2021/22 season is the state-of-the-art, 10 seater cable car to restructure the slope of La Masse. This special feature is one of the two fastest cable cars in France and is available in both winter and summer. 

The Friendly Natural Park offers you and your family to get to know the local wildlife better. This new fun area is dedicated to the animals living in the Vanoise National Park, such as; Black grouse, golden eagle, rock ptarmigan, and the famous marmot! Learn about these animals and their habitat from the terrace, or enjoy the fun run with some challenges along the way!

Get a takeaway raclette kit from the Peuf Daddy restaurant, which offers Savoyard specialities and bistronomic dishes using fresh, local, artisanal ingredients. Kits include a cheese melter, AOP cheese, a selection of regional cooked and cured meats, potatoes, local wine, and gherkins.

SAINTE FOY

Upgrades have been made to the Arpettaz and Grand Plan chairlifts, allowing for an increase in capacity on the routes. The passenger capacity on the Arpettaz lift has increased to 3000p/h and the Grand Plan to 2000p/h.

TIGNES

Upgrades have been made to the Marais chairlift, making it an express lift, with an estimated journey time of 8 minutes and 20 seconds. The lift links the Aiguille Rouge (which is above Tignes 1800) to the Aiguille Percée.

You can now try "Human Bowling" Zorbing in Tignes! Reach up to 50km/h whilst hurtling down the new zorbing track harnessed in a ball (solo or duo) and knock down as many inflatable skittles as possible!

Now known as the highest Michelin starred restaurant, Le Panoramic Grande Motte is found in Tignes, at over 3,000m altitude and accessed by the funicular railway. Chef Jean-Michel Bouvier has created a cosy atmosphere for gourmet dining; traditional Savoie dishes, using quality ingredients, cooked over a wood fire!

Meribel trois vallees

MERIBEL

The well-loved Piste des Animaux has received a makeover, combining both fun with education. Get to know the local wildlife, using all five senses to recognise ibexes, chamois goats and marmots, with useful tips to identify their tracks, calls and coats. A must for the whole family to enjoy together and is even accessible to non-skiers thanks to the footpath running alongside it

Shapen programme is offered by the Courchevel Village ESF, with a new fitness video training system tailored to snowsports. The programme has three difficulty levels: beginner, advanced and expert - suitable for everyone!
