We have just bid farewell to our wonderful placement student Sophie, who has been with us for almost a year. Working across the reservations and marketing departments, Sophie has been a joy to work with and an asset to the team. Before she left, we took the opportunity to ask Sophie a few questions about her time at Ski Collection...

Q: Why did you want to do your placement at Ski Collection?
A: When the time came to start applying for placements, I knew I wanted to work somewhere that related to my degree in Tourism Management and in an area that would appeal to me and that I would find interesting. When I was offered the job at Ski Collection as a sales and reservations consultant it seemed like the perfect place to spend my placement year to expand my knowledge of the travel industry and learn about the way a tour operator works.

Q: What have you learnt during your time with us?
A: Having never worked for a tour operator or in a sales environment before, I have gained a lot of knowledge of the way a tour operator works and of course lots of knowledge about the French Alps and Pyrenees ski resorts. During the second half of my time at Ski Collection I also spent some time in the marketing department, where I was able to help out with social media, writing press releases and with my main job being helping to set up the new Ski Collection website.

Q: How does your experience at Ski Collection fit in with your studies?
A: I am studying Tourism Management at Bournemouth University so spending my placement year working at a tour operator relates directly to my degree. During my first two years of my course, I studied various modules including Tour Operations Management, Marketing and Finance, all of which have been part of my work at Ski Collection.

Q: What has been your favourite part of your role at Ski Collection?
A: I thought that being a student; I would be treated like a student during my placement year. However my favourite part of working for Ski Collection was I was made to feel like a real member of the team from my first day and wasn’t treated any differently because I was a student. I was treated the same as all permanent members of staff and made to feel welcome and part of the Ski Collection team.

Q: Has doing your placement at Ski Collection helped you decide what you want to do after you graduate?
A: Having the opportunity to work in both the sales and marketing department has given me a wide knowledge about how a tour operator works and how the two departments are connected. Because of my time at Ski Collection I have decided to take marketing modules in my final year.

Q: What is your favourite memory of working at Ski Collection?
A: My Colleagues in the reservations team have been my favourite part of job. I have been lucky to work with some really lovely people who helped me whenever I needed it and made me feel welcome all the time. I was also lucky enough to be taken on an educational trip to the French Alps during my first week, which enabled me to expand my knowledge of the resorts that Ski Collection feature. I visited Peisey-Vallandry, La Rosiere, Sainte-Foy and Tignes where I was able to visit all of the residences Ski Collection feature and get a real feel of each resort.

Q: What does the future hold for you?
A: I am returning to uni in September to start my final year. Once I graduate in 2015 I would like to find a job within the travel industry, I have particularly enjoyed the marketing experience I have gained working at Ski Collection.
