Ski Avoriaz (Portes du Soleil)
Ski Collection presents a different kind of ski resort
Family Skiing - Ski-in/ski-out, Car Free Resort
Avoriaz is the only car-free resort in France, and what’s more, every Avoriaz apartment and chalet is accessible on skis. Parents can spend their Avoriaz ski holidays with complete peace of mind, in the knowledge that their little ones are safe from traffic around the town. The ice skating rink, the sledge slope, and the children’s village are located in the centre of Avoriaz.
One of the largest ski areas in Europe
Avoriaz is ideally placed right in the middle of the Portes du Soleil, with 650km of high altitude slopes in France and Switzerland, offering panoramic skiing between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva. The resort is the perfect starting point for those seeking to explore the Portes du Soleil area, with the option of skiing to a different resort every day of the week for lunch.
The Stash – Top snowpark in Europe
Avoriaz has adopted their snowpark design from the Californian resort of North Star. An area in the middle of the forest caters for a mixture of freeride and freestyle abilities. Three natural non-groomed slopes of varying steepness wind in and out of the trees in the Lindarets forest. To make it more exciting, the runs also have hidden wooden obstacles to discover when hurtling down a "secret passage".
Great sunshine record
The village is located on a south-facing plateau, making it a delightful place to enjoy the après-ski on an outside terrace after a day on the sunny slopes.
Portes du Soleil Ski Area
Avoriaz is ideally located at the heart of the Portes du Soleil, which is conveniently placed between Geneva and Mont Blanc. The Portes du Soleil skiing area offers an extensive 650 km of pistes, 279 marked pistes, 9 snowparks, 12 resorts and two countries to choose from. The Portes du Soleil vies with the Three Valleys for the prestigious title of ‘World’s Largest Ski Area’ but the pistes and atmosphere of the resorts differ greatly.
As a whole, the Portes du Soleil offers classic intermediate terrain but each resort has own appeal and challenges for the more advanced. For ease of navigation within such a wide area, there are 12 discovery routes, signposted with different alpine animals according to the level of difficulty. Beginners are well catered for within each local area.
Avoriaz Ski Resort
Avoriaz 1800 is a charming purpose-built, pedestrianised ski resort. Skiing starts on your doorstep in Avoriaz with snow covered paths leading to the pistes giving the resort a real alpine feel. Avoriaz is the highest altitude of all the resorts of the Portes du Soleil and you will find a wide variety of terrain from wide sweeping runs to pistes running through the trees.
There is something for every level of skier; the main Portes du Soleil circuit can be easily enjoyed by beginners and intermediates, along with plenty of challenging runs for the more expert skiers. Avoriaz has a lively atmosphere with a good range of restaurants and bars and plenty of activities both on and off the pistes.
Avoriaz has undergone major transformations over the years, with a million Euro revamp. New accommodation has been built and existing accommodation resorted and refurbished with excellent results. There is a range of accommodation with excellent facilities to suit all budgets.
