Thinking of skiing in Megeve? Just 44 miles from Geneva airport, Megeve was conceived in the 1920s as a French alternative to Switzerland's St Moritz and was France's first purpose-built resort.
Why Megève Ski Resort?
- Excellent for non-skiers
- Attractive village with cobbled streets
- Plenty of high end shopping opportunities
- Skiing ideal for intermediates
Along with being the first purpose-built resort in the Alps, Megève was also the first French ski resort (in 1933) to have a cable car installed specifically for winter sports. The latest version of this lift remains the quickest way to get up to the top of the Rochebrune Ridge.
Megève (1113m) is an enchanting Haute Savoyard town set in a delightful sunny setting, which retained its part-medieval heritage and old rustic charm to become one of the most fashionable and chic resorts in France.
It’s one of the best resorts in the Alps for non-skiers: Megève has a beautifully preserved medieval centre - now pedestrianised - with narrow cobbled streets, tastefully restored buildings, a pretty church, horse-drawn sleighs (including a new service linking the centre with Le Jaillet, available on the Evasion Mont-Blanc ski pass,) a weekly market, an open-ice rink and plenty of marked paths for walkers.
There are lots of smart clothing and jewellery boutiques, food, antique and gift shops, along with bars, a jazz club and a casino. As well as those, Megève also boasts museums and many traditional farms in outlying villages and hamlets, some of which organise visits and tastings. On the slopes, there are some magnificent views across to Mont Blanc.
Ski Collection offers 4* self-catered apartments in Megeve, complete with outdoor heated pool, providing the ideal base for a Megeve ski holiday.
The Megève Tourist Office staff will be happy to help you with any information or advice that you may need during your stay.
Open: December - March 09:00 - 19:00 and April 09:00 - 12:30 & 14:00 - 18:00.
