Ski Safety

image Tuesday, 22, February, 2022

We thought we would provide a refresh of ski safety/rules for you to remind yourself and the family before heading on your alpine adventure!

1) Ski and snowboard within your ability.
Adapt the manner and speed of your skiing/snowboarding to your ability and to the general conditions on the mountain. Please do not overestimate your skiing ability.

2) Think about where you stop.
If you need to stop, head to the side of the piste, never in the middle and never beneath the brow of a hill.

3) Be aware of your surroundings.
Look up and down the slope before you set off or re-join the piste. Respect others and their right of way.

4) Set a good example for children.
Teach children about piste safety and the importance of the piste code.

5) Respect piste signs and markings.
Watch for signs advising you to slow down, or those that indicate areas for beginners. If a piste is closed, it’s closed for your safety don't go on it.

6) Consider the path you take.
The downhill skier or snowboarder always has the right of way. It’s your responsibility to avoid them and to leave space while passing.

7) If there's an accident, you are duty-bound to assist.
Cross your skis upright in the snow above the incident and call 112. All those involved in an accident, including witnesses, should exchange names and addresses.

8) What else can you do?
Be sensible with your alcohol consumption, don’t listen to music on the pistes and never use ski apps that challenge your speed.
