Koh-i Nor in Val Thorens is an impressive modern 5* luxury ski residence, located on the Plein Sud ski slope offers door-step skiing (snow and level depending) however please be aware that it is a blue slope out and back, so not ideal for beginners. Koh-i Nor won France's best ski hotel at the World Snow Awards in 2016.
Koh-i Nor, the 'Jewel' of Val Thorens, is an impressive modern luxury ski residence built in winter 2013/14. Koh-i Nor, meaning 'Mountain of Light' in Persian, is in fact a 105,602 carat diamond (21.61g) currently mounted on the Queens crown of the British Royal Family and was once the largest diamond in the world. The Koh-i Nor diamond has passed through several hands over the centuries: the Mongol Khans, the imperial court of Afghanistan, the palace of the Rajas of India and finally to the British Crown.
Consisting of only 35 luxury self-catering ski apartments, Koh-i Nor is elegant with a subtle mix of mountain style and modern design. The views over the resort from the Koh-i Nor ski residence are amazing and the shops, bars and restaurants are a short walk downhill. The Ecole de Ski Francais (ESF) ski school is about 10 minute walk down hill (allow a little longer to walk back!). There is a free resort shuttle bus that operates every 20 minutes or you can ski down. The residence offers as well a free resort shuttle (on request, depending on times, subject to availability).
Facilities at Koh-i Nor in Val Thorens include free and unlimited access to the private indoor heated swimming pool, sauna and fitness room; access to the adjacent hotel's Spa (payable), where numerous massages, treatments, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and experience showers can be enjoyed (all payable), a luxury Brasserie Restaurant with its prestigious wine cellar, an International Restaurant with breakfast and/or evening meal options, and a charming Savoyard restaurant, a large sunny terrace with impressive panoramic views, a lounge-bar to enjoy a relaxing après-ski drink, secure ski lockers with heated boot-dryers, free Wi-Fi internet access (in the reception area and in all the apartments), free private shuttle bus between the residence and the resort centre (upon reservation at selected times and subject to availability), laundry service (payable) and a bakery delivery service for daily fresh bread and croissants (payable, pre-order at reception the day before for delivery directly to your apartment the following morning).
Val Thorens is a semi-pedestrian ski resort, meaning you can drive through the resort and unload your luggage at your chosen apartment or hotel and then you must park your vehicle in the residences car park or one of the public car parks in the resort, you are not allowed to park in the street. Koh-i Nor has underground parking (1 free car space/apartment, extra car space €95-€120/week) or you can use one of the public outdoor or covered car parks (payable & pre-bookable).
The loan of cots, highchairs (request at time of booking), raclette, pierrade and fondue sets is also possible (all subject to availability).
The stylish self-catering ski apartments at Koh-i Nor in Val Thorens are modern, well designed and luxurious. The use of stone, dark wood and plush furnishings throughout create a warm and inviting atmosphere. They all have a fully fitted kitchen with electric oven, 4-ring hob with extractor fan, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and Nespresso coffee maker; satellite TV, in the living area and master bedroom, and telephone with direct line (calls payable), balcony and a safe in the apartment, free Wi-Fi internet access, at least one bath and/or shower room and all beds have duvets.
